Reduced services

The Beat is open 12 to 3pm on Sunday for drop-in patients who need to be seen urgently. NO routine procedures are available at this session (i.e. smears, Implant fittings, IUD removals)

It is possible that there could be a reduced service with no routine procedures at any drop-in session at short notice due to staffing or operational issues, however we do make every effort to provide a full drop-in service Monday to Saturday.

Alternatively patients can book an appointment - Phone: 01512476555

Abacus Sexual Health Service can be accessed by appointment or through our drop in clinics (where no appointment is necessary).

However, please note that some treatments such as routine IUS/IUD insertion or renewal, implant removal/renewal are available by appointment only. The drop in service runs alongside the appointments.

For further information call 0151 247 6500 or, to make an appointment, call any time Monday to Friday between 9.00am and 5.00pm on 0151 247 6555.

Cancelling your appointment

We understand that sometimes unexpected events can prevent you from keeping your appointment. If you cannot attend please contact us as soon as possible. We can offer your appointment to someone else and avoid the appointment being wasted.

We lost 50 appointments in December due to patients not attending, at a cost of £778. This is an enormous waste of NHS resources and impacts on staff time managements and patient waiting times. If you need to reschedule and cancel appointments please call our appointment line: 0151 247 6555

Domiciliary Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare Service

The domiciliary service is available to all people who require sexual and/or reproductive healthcare but are unable to access mainstream Abacus Clinics. Referrals must meet the following criteria to ensure that the service is provided to those people in real need of a domiciliary service:

  • People with mental and/or physical disability which make attendance at clinic difficult
  • People whose carer responsibilities make it difficult for them to attend the sexual and reproductive healthcare clinics.
  • People whose local sexual and reproductive healthcare clinic is not within walking distance of home, and have no access to any form of transport.
  • People whose language, culture or religion may cause difficulties in accessing sexual and reproductive healthcare clinics
  • People who are motivated to seek out sexual and reproductive healthcare services, but also need assistance in order to comply with contraceptive methods
  • Emergency home circumstances that prevent the person from accessing mainstream sexual and reproductive healthcare clinics

If you require any further information in regards to this service, please contact Abacus on 0151 247 6555.

Waiting times: Waiting times at our clinics can be variable. This is a drop in service so we cannot predict how many clients may come through the door. Consultations times can vary depending on need. Please bear in mind that clinicians must fill in medical records after each consultation.

Clinic suspensions: On occasions it may be necessary to suspend clinic registration for short periods due to high numbers of patients accessing the drop in service.  This ensures we maintain patient safety at all times.
