Service available in:

Our eating disorder service provides psychological assessment, formulation and intervention for adults (aged 16 and over) who are experiencing an eating disorder. Referrals for the eating disorder service, including the FREED pathway are accepted from GPs and other medical practitioners.

We offer a range of evidence-based therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), delivered in both individual and group settings. We also offer consultation to other services when direct working is not considered the most appropriate form of intervention.

The FREED pathway offers support to 16 to 25 year olds living across Liverpool and Sefton who have experienced an eating disorder for three years or less.

The FREED pathway offers evidence based therapies, prioritising early intervention and providing treatment which is tailored to the specific needs of young people.

Referrals for the eating disorder service and FREED pathway are accepted from GPs or other medical practitioners. This is necessary as we are a psychotherapy service and therefore rely on medical practitioners to monitor the physical health aspect of our clients’ eating disorders.

If other practitioners such as therapists, counsellors, social workers etc. know the client better and wish to refer, we would ask that this comes with a covering letter from a medical practitioner. Referral letters should include information on the clients specific eating disorder symptoms, duration of difficulties, weight, height and any recent change in weight.

All referrals are processed by members of the EDS or FREED team.

If appropriate for EDS, clients are sent an opt-in letter requesting that they phone to book in for an appointment. Waiting time for assessment is 2 to 4  weeks. We aim to offer therapy within 18 weeks. Unfortunately, at present, our waiting times are longer.

If a client appears to be appropriate for the FREED pathway, we aim to contact them by telephone within 48 hours to gather more information. Following this, clients may be offered a FREED or EDS assessment appointment. Waiting time for assessment in the FREED pathway is 2 weeks. Waiting time for therapy is around 4 weeks, although this may also be dependent on group start dates.
