It's always good to consider the views of existing staff when you're thinking of joining a new organisation. Here at Mersey Care we've collated a number of different views to help give new candidates a feel for what it's like to work for us.

Meet Kenza Al Houari, who wrote a blog about her experiences after being given a temporary work placement with our communications team.

I’ve just spent a week on the Communications team at Mersey Care, and I’d like to tell you all about it!

My name is Kenza Al Houari, and I’m a Business and Public Relations student at LJMU, currently on placement at MIAA. Recently, my manager approached me asking how I’d like to spend a week in a (much) larger trust. I of course jumped at the opportunity!

I showed up during quite a busy week, with a new hire starting just two days after me, so my status as “the newbie” was very short lived. The entire Comms team was extremely welcoming and helpful, and didn’t let me spend the entire week chasing the rabbits around the Hollins Park office (unfortunately).

I’ve had the opportunity to work on a couple of different projects, namely the Love Parks Week and Health Information Week campaigns, so keep an eye out! It was incredibly interesting designing material for a larger team, and I tried to make the most out of being able to question a graphic designer about every tiny detail.

I also got to write a press release with the guidance of the Mersey Care Media Manager. This was quite a fun challenge as most of my experience writing press releases has been in an academic, and not a practical setting. And adapting my writing to the house style was great practice!

My week at Mersey Care has been amazing, and has taught me so much. Getting (good quality) work experience while in university is invaluable, and my time here didn’t disappoint! I would also like to thank everyone who made this possible, and who took time out of their busy schedules to help me, especially the Head of Communications, who went above and beyond!
