Children’s Speech and Language Training
Our Children’s Speech and Language Therapy Team in St Helens delivers training aimed at parents and school staff working with children and young people who need support with speech, language, and communication.
All our training is delivered online via Microsoft Teams and each course is 1.5 hours long.

Universal early years training
Aims:
- to help you identify different speech, language, and communication needs
- provide you with strategies to support pre-school children within your setting. Some strategies may also be beneficial in the home environment.

Wednesday 13 October

Universal school age training
Aims:
- to help you identify different speech, language, and communication needs
- provide you with strategies which can be used to support primary-aged children with these needs in your setting. Some strategies may also be helpful in the home environment.

Universal secondary age training
Aims:
- to help you identify different speech, language and communication needs
- provide you with strategies which can be used to support secondary-aged children with these needs within your setting. Some strategies may also be helpful in the home environment.

Wednesday 3 November
|
Total communication training
Aims:
- to understand the total communication approach
- to support children who communicate using body language, symbols, signs, electronic aids or objects in your setting or at home.

Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) training
Aims:
- Share information about what Developmental Language Disorder is and how you can help

Social communication groups training
Aims:
- Share how to run social communication skills groups

Tuesday 23 November

Dysfluency training
Aims:
- outline what stammering/ dysfluency is
- raise awareness on the origin of stammering
- share general advice on how to support children and young people who stammer.

Attention and memory training
Aims:
- help you to develop a greater understanding of how attention and memory skills can impact on communication
- provide you with strategies on how to support children with these needs.

Speech difficulties training
Aims:
- help you understand the different difficulties a child might have in relation to using speech sounds when talking.
- share strategies for how you can help children to develop speech sounds to make their speech easier for others to understand.
