About physiotherapy

Physiotherapy can help you avoid injuries, keep you fit enough to work, and help you to stay mobile and independent.

The aim of physiotherapy is to help restore movement and function when someone is affected by injury, illness or disability. It can also be used to help manage pain and reduce risk of injury or illness in the future.

Physiotherapy is provided by specially trained and regulated practitioners called physiotherapists.

Physiotherapists use different treatment options and preventative approaches, depending on the specific problems you’re experiencing. The main approaches a physiotherapist may use are:

  • movement and exercise
  • manual therapy
  • education and advice.

We offer physiotherapy as part of our musculoskeletal services in Knowsley and St Helens which you can self-refer to via our service pages if you live in these areas.

On our joint and muscle pain pages you will find a wide range of information about different health conditions and support for managing these, including gentle exercises which can help.

In this section of the website, we also share general lifestyle advice.
