Jane said, “Energy use and transport are two of the main causes of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide and methane. By investing in renewable energy and alternative ways to travel, we are already making a difference. A cycle to work scheme is already in place. ”

Solar panels on Rowan View and Aspen Wood hospitals - and other buildings at Maghull Health Park produce a significant amount of electricity to help power the sites. This saves the equivalent carbon footprint of taking about 60 cars off the road for a year.

Heating and hot water in Rathbone Hospital, Leigh Moss, Moss House and The Life Rooms in Walton are now produced by low carbon heat pumps.

At the newly opened Mossley Hill Hospital, green spaces have also been created to cool the building naturally, crucial as our weather gets warmer.

Future plans include offering enhanced digital options, where clinically appropriate, meaning service users make fewer journeys.

Jane’s message is clear. “Cleaner air means fewer asthma attacks, greener spaces mean better mental health and energy efficient buildings mean lower bills – which is more money for health services. Sustainability isn’t just about saving the planet, it’s about saving lives.”
