Community Appointment Days from our Musculoskeletal community teams take place throughout the year.
The appointment days are an opportunity for patients who have been referred to Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust’s MSK services in St Helens or Knowsley for assessment or rehabilitation advice to receive health promotion, community and voluntary sector support all in one appointment.
You can attend a local leisure centre for a physiotherapy session and access a whole host of additional services, advice and education to help you manage your condition, health and wellbeing. You can see as many or as few services as you like.
Our team of physiotherapists, advanced practitioners and other support staff, will provide assessment and support to address what matters most to you and community partners will be on hand to offer advice on a range of issues, health, housing, wellbeing and staying fit and well.
The events are ONLY for people who have been referred to Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust MSK physiotherapy service.
- Assessment and health conversations with physiotherapists and other advanced clinical practitioners
- Rehabilitation and advice sessions
- Access to information and rehabilitation programmes specific to your condition
- Information stalls from community groups
- Support with long term conditions.
Do I have to attend a community appointment day?
No, you can choose to attend the community appointment day or continue to receive assessments at one of our clinics.
Do I need to book a time?
All patients who are eligible will be given an appointment time to come along.
What will it look like?
The events are held in a local sports hall at a local leisure centre. The hall will be divided into large areas for each supportive area with 10 to 20 clinicians available in each area. Once you have had your first clinical conversation you will be advised to visit the area(s) that we will feel will support you and your condition. Colour coded signs and stewards will help guide you through the space. You will be given your own document (called a patient passport) to keep and to make your own notes.
How long will I be there?
You will have as long as you need, there is no time limit on the appointments. Each person’s appointment will be different.
What accessible features are there?
Our events are all held on the ground floor level. Close to the main entrance and stewards and signage will help you find your way.
There may be many people in the space. If you struggle with crowds or noise sensitivity you may prefer an alternative appointment. Please call us to discuss this.
Disabled and gendered toilets are available on site.
Can I bring a friend or family member?
Due to space restrictions, we ask that you attend on your own, unless you need support from a carer.
Getting there
We will hold these events in locations which are easily located in your local community and accessible via public transport. Appointment letters will have details of public transport and car parking.
We would like to take some photographs at the events. If you do not wish to be in any photographs, please let us know when you arrive.
