Who we are
Our Intravenous Therapy Service support adults in Knowsley who need intravenous therapy in the community.
Intravenous therapy (IV) involves delivering medication directly into someone's vein. Intravenous simply means 'within vein'. IV Therapy is delivered into a vein as it is the fastest way to get it working in the body. Having this therapy at home or in the community reduces the need for a long stay in hospital.
Our service is for adults in Knowsley who need intravenous therapy and we support a range of people with conditions.
Below are some of the conditions we can treat in the community:
- Cellulitis (soft tissue and skin infections)
- Diabetic foot ulcers
- Respiratory (breathing) problems
- Urine infections
- Spinal infections
- Osteomyelitis (infections of the bone)
- Removal of chemotherapy treatment
- Anti-viral treatments
- Cardiac (heart) related infections
Our community nurses deliver safe, effective and evidence based intravenous therapy nursing care to patients in a community setting.
We deliver the Intravenous Therapy Service in partnership with Bridgewater Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
We work closely with GPs and other community based services and local pharmacies. We also work in partnership with local hospital pharmacists, physicians, clinicians, microbiologists and ward nursing teams.
A nurse will come to your preferred place of treatment and carry out an assessment so we can identify, discuss and plan for your care needs.
