We serve more than 1.4 million people, offering specialist inpatient and community services that support mental health, learning disabilities, addictions, brain injuries and physical health, and we are one of only three trusts in the UK that offer high secure mental health facilities.

We are proud of our range of diverse and representative members who have joined the Trust and are helping us build and maintain effective links with the communities that we serve. This ensures direct involvement by stakeholders in our corporate governance and decision making processes.

As a member you would:

  • Join an influential group of people interested in the development of mental health, learning disabilities, addictions, brain injuries and physical health
  • Be kept up to date about our ambitious plans for the future and give us your views and opinions
  • Receive the MC magazine
  • Be invited to our Annual Members' Event and Annual General Meeting
  • Be eligible to vote in elections for the council of governors, or stand for election yourself (please note you will need to be 16 years of age and over to be eligible for election; see below)
  • Have access to NHS discounts with discounted prices from thousands of retailers at Health Service Discounts.

To provide our members with the most up to date information, in the quickest and most efficient way, the majority of our communication with you will be via email. This is also the most cost effective and resourceful way for the Trust to engage with you as members, and also the public.

However, if you would like to receive information from us in any other format, we will always try our very best to accommodate your request in a timely manner.

The GDPR is the General Data Protection Regulation, a European-wide law, which  governs how organisations can collect, use and transfer personal data. It came into force on 25 May 2018  alongside the new Data Protection Act 2018.

As a Foundation Trust, Mersey Care has a statutory requirement to develop and maintain a membership and it is necessary for us to process our members personal data to perform this task.  Our members are drawn from the public, people who use our services or care for people who use our services and staff. We request and securely hold data on our members, which they provide when joining our membership.

The data we hold on our members enables us to show that we are representative of the community we provide services for, to keep members updated through our quarterly MC Magazine via email or post and to invite all members to the Annual General meeting. We also engage with all members advising when the election for governors will be taking place, giving members the opportunity to nominate themselves to become a governor and to vote in elections for the council of governors.

Should you no longer wish to be a member of Mersey Care please email ft.membership@merseycare.nhs.uk with your details or call 0151 471 2303 asking that your details be removed.

We have elected a Council of Governors to hold non-executive members of the board to account and ensure the organisation is run in the best way possible in the future.

Governors are your voice and if you would like to share any views or comments regarding our strategic plans or if you have any other ideas and suggestions, you can contact Governors by emailing MerseycareCOG@merseycare.nhs.uk
