Tooth decay is a major health concern worldwide and is a continuing problem in the UK. Each time you have sugary food and drink, the bacterium in the plaque produces acid which attacks the teeth. Brushing your teeth thoroughly with fluoride toothpaste is one of the most effective ways of preventing tooth decay and lowering your sugar intake.
A range of toothpaste are available containing different fluoride levels; however, using a toothpaste containing the correct fluoride levels for your child's age is recommended.
How to find a dentist?
Every child should be able to access good-quality NHS dental services. It is important to be aware that not all dental practices take NHS patients some are private practices.
If your child does not have a regular dental practice or are new to the area, you can search for an NHS dentist near you on NHS website.
Dental practices won't always have the capacity to take on new NHS patients – your child may have to join a waiting list, look for a different dentist who is taking on new NHS patients, or be seen privately.
Once you find a dental practice, you may have to fill in a registration form for your child, which is purely to add them to their patient database. However, that does not mean you have guaranteed access to an NHS dental appointment in the future (NHS).
