Mersey Care's Liverpool and Sefton Perinatal Mental Health team is to extend into a second base in Bootle in addition to its Liverpool Women’s Hospital home after a rapid expansion in the service over the last eight years.

Since starting at the Liverpool Women's Hospital, the service has increased from six staff to a team of more than 50 and, after speaking with patients, staff and estates to review options, an additional base has been found at The Investment Centre, 375 Stanley Road, Bootle L20 3EF.

Some staff will stay at the Liverpool Women’s Hospital and work alongside those based in Bootle to support patients across both areas. Having this additional Sefton base, which opened on 26 August, will make it easier for staff to meet with patients and families locally and provide extra clinical space for more appointments.

The Perinatal Mental Health team provide mental health assessment and support for local women and birthing people experiencing mental health issues during this time. Referrals will continue to be accepted on the same email address.

Any questions about the expansion of the team and the new Bootle base, please email Cheryl Finnigan.
