Mersey Care is marking another summer when young people across Cheshire and Merseyside are approaching young adulthood, and possibly leaving school, by pointing them towards useful resources and support on their school health portal.
The section is designed to support the transition of secondary school students, particularly those in Year 11 and above, and the guide offers practical advice on navigating health services and making informed decisions about personal wellbeing.
The resources include:
- Dental Registration: Guidance on finding and registering with an NHS dentist, including tips for accessing care if you're new to the area or facing waiting lists
- General Health Advice: Encouragement to take responsibility for regular check ups and understand how to access NHS services
- Navigating Adulthood: Support for making independent choices about health, lifestyle, and wellbeing.
The resource is part of Mersey Care’s broader commitment to early intervention and education, helping young people build confidence in managing their health needs as they transition into adulthood.
“We want young people to feel empowered, informed, and supported as they take on more responsibility for their health,” said Trish Mattinson, Mersey Care’s Head of Operations for Children and Young People & Families. “This guide is a great starting point for building independence.”
The Becoming Independent section is available online via the School Health Portal, offering easy to read information and links to further support.
