Why did you choose to become a Student Dietitian?

I have always been really interested in working in healthcare and loved the idea of using nutrition to help people achieve optimal health.

Describe your current role and what it involves:

I am currently in my final placement before graduating so learning and applying how to conduct consultations independently, complete appropriate admin and liaise with service users to create an achievable care plan, which may involve food fortification, tube feeds or oral nutrition supplements.

Describe the journey to where you are now in your career

I started my training at the University of Chester 3 years ago and have since been on a placement in Salford last year and now, on placement in Liverpool. I even already have a job lined up ready for after I graduate!

What’s the best thing about being a student Dietitian?

What makes Dietitians great?

I always enjoy learning new things and then doesn’t stop, even after graduation. There are lots of courses ran and new papers published regularly, updating the best practice!

It’s also great to see the progress of a patient, especially when providing advice and support in situations you may not have encountered in practice before.

Why you should become an Dietitian?

Dietitians are like-minded, caring people and we love to welcome students with open arms! As the roles of dietitians in healthcare become more recognised, we need more of us to take on all the jobs opening up throughout the career!
