Governor elections - 2023

Our 2023 Council of Governor elections will take place over the summer.

To make sure you are kept up to date on our elections to the Council of Governors, please make sure you are a member. All members will automatically receive election details.

Our service users, carers, staff and members of the public have the opportunity to influence the way your health services are run by becoming Governors for Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust.

Mersey Care is a foundation trust which remains part of the NHS but is answerable to local people who can become members and governors.

NHS foundation trusts share all the same values, quality and safety standards as NHS trusts, but they are ‘owned’ by their members who elect a Council of Governors to represent the views of members, patients, staff, partner organisations and the public.

This means that the Council of Governors is an important link between our local communities and staff, and the Board of Directors, which has the responsibility of running the organisation and preparing the Trust’s strategy. The Council of Governors works alongside the Board of Directors to help local communities and staff have a greater say in the strategic direction of the Trust, and how services are developed and delivered by the Trust.

Our Council of Governors have a number of statutory duties and are responsible for ensuring that community views are considered when Trust decisions are made and services are developed.
