At Mersey Care we have over 11,000 staff working together to provide community (physical health, district nursing, school nursing, etc) and mental health services across Merseyside and parts of Lancashire and Cheshire.
About our team
The Medicines Management Team has over 150 enthusiastic staff, including professionally registered pharmacists and pharmacy technicians (predominantly in patient facing (clinical) roles) and pharmacy support workers and administrative support staff.
-
We dispense and supply stock medicines from our 2 dispensaries
-
Our clinical staff work on our in-patient wards (physical health and mental health) to support doctors, nurses and patients use medicines effectively
-
We offer Undergraduate Placements for undergraduates who are studying on a Masters in Pharmacy (MPharm); priority will usually be given to students at a North West University (Approved courses for pharmacists)
-
These Undergraduate Placements are in addition to any formal placements organised by your School of Pharmacy
-
According to our capacity, we offer a one-week Undergraduate Placement at either the Medicines Management Team, Maghull, L31 1HW or at the Hollins Park Dispensary, Warrington, WA2 8WA. For students who have completed at least 2-years of their MPharm degree, a second week can occasionally be provided and include some clinical (patient facing) placements
-
Dates would be agreed at a mutually convenient time (but would not usually run in November or December)
-
The Undergraduate Placements would usually be from Monday to Friday (except bank holidays), starting from 8.30am to 5pm
-
We will place you in one of our Dispensaries
-
You will learn about the way medicines are dispensed, supplied and stored; this will complement your undergraduate syllabus
-
During your undergraduate placement, you will spend time dispensing and supplying medicines as part of the routine dispensary work. We will also provide a brief induction & orientation
-
We will provide a workbook that will help you understand the role of the Medicines Management Team in the Trust
-
Work experience is unpaid; you will be responsible for all travel, accommodation and subsistence costs
To apply fill in our Undergraduate Placements application form
-
In your application form, be very clear why you are applying to work with the Trust’s team and summarise what you hope to gain from the Undergraduate Placement
-
We will issue you with a Letter of Access (in lieu of a contract)
-
We would like to encourage you to apply to join our Bank, so you can offer to work at times that are mutually convenient. You would be paid for Bank work as a Band 3 Pharmacy Support Worker
-
If you would like to meet with a pharmacist to discuss your career pathway, we can arrange that with you during your placement
