Mersey Care is celebrating Sexual Health Week (8-14 September) by using it as an opportunity to open up conversations, share resources, and empower young people to make informed choices about their bodies, relationships, and wellbeing.
Sexual health is about more than just avoiding infections or unplanned pregnancies - it’s about respect, confidence, and understanding.
It's a state of physical, emotional, mental, and social wellbeing in relation to sexuality. It requires a positive and respectful approach to sexual relationships, consent, and identity.
Our dedicated Sexual Health page offers trusted information and support on:
- Contraception – including emergency options and advice for all genders and orientations
- Consent – understanding your rights and respecting others
- LGBTQ+ support – guidance on sexuality, gender identity, and where to find help
- Pregnancy – what to do if you think you’re pregnant and how to access support
- Sexting and online safety – how to protect yourself and others
- STIs – what they are, how to prevent them, and where to get tested.
Young people deserve access to clear, inclusive, and non-judgmental information. Whether you're exploring your identity, starting a relationship, or just curious about how to stay safe - you’re not alone.
Sefton and Liverpool school health teams have been trained in offering advice around sexual health. Young people, parents, and education staff can contact us for more advice or one to one confidential appointments.
We encourage parents, carers, and educators to use this week to start conversations and share resources that help young people feel confident and supported.
