Our Services
Mersey Care takes ownership of newest NHS health care facility
Mersey Care has claimed the keys for Mossley Hill mental health care facility, the newest health care unit of its kind in the NHS, which ends dormitory style care in Liverpool.
The new 80 bed inpatient unit has been built on the site of the old Mossley Hill Hospital and will become fully operational later this year once internal fitting is completed. More information is available on the news pages of our website or watch our short video below of Chief Nurse, Jenny Hurst having a tour of the new build.
New school aged immunisation services to be provided in Halton
We have become the main provider of school aged immunisation services in Halton, extending our provision across the region where we currently deliver similar high quality services across Knowsley, Liverpool, St Helens and Sefton.
From 1 September 2025, we took over school aged immunisations in Halton, following the transition of the service from Bridgewater Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. More information on the news pages of our website.
Additional Sefton base aids expansion of Mersey Care's perinatal team
Our Liverpool and Sefton Specialist Perinatal Mental Health team is to extend into a second base in Bootle in addition to its Liverpool Women’s Hospital home after an expansion in the service over the last eight years.
Since starting at Liverpool Women's Hospital, the service has increased from six to a team of more than 50 and after speaking with patients and staff, including estates staff, to review options, an additional base has been found at The Investment Centre, 375 Stanley Road, Bootle L20 3EF. More information can be found in the news section of our website.
Introduction to attachment and developmental trauma
We’re offering specialist training, focused on parent infant mental health, for all staff and professionals supporting families in the community. This specialist evidence based training will equip professionals with an understanding of parent infant mental health and importantly how we can work together to support parent infant mental health. More information is available on our website.
Volunteers blooming after Southport Flower Show appearance
Volunteers supporting Mersey Care services in St Helens have designed and built a garden which aims to highlight the benefits of gardening on positive mental health and was featured in the prestigious Southport Flower Show.
The garden, titled ‘Rooted in Wellbeing,’ was created by Mersey Care’s Peasley Cross Gardening Group and was part of the Flower Show as a display item. As the garden was based on a beach theme, volunteers used plants normally found in coastal areas. More information is available on the news section of our website.

Our Achievements
Mersey Care commended for contribution to national QI programme
Mersey Care has been recognised for its contribution to national quality improvement programmes with a certificate of commendation from the Prescribing Observatory for Mental Health (POMH).
The Trust has participated in 20 of the 24 clinical audits run over the last 20 years by POMH and has been a continuous member of the organisation since 2007.
The National Prescribing Observatory for Mental Health helps specialist mental health trusts improve their prescribing practice by developing and leading national clinical audits. Taking part in these has enabled us to contribute to the wider national picture of care standards across the country and also allows us to benchmark our own performance against that of other organisations.

How M-RIC is increasing understanding of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs)

The personal accounts have been collected by M-RIC as part of their work on population mental health and Liverpool City Region (LCR) Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) Research Alliance. The aim is to empower people to tell their stories which will help increase wider understanding of the impact of ACEs. Read more on the M-RIC website.

Scaling new heights for our services
Congratulations to Dr Katarzyna S Adamczyk (Kasia), Specialist Counselling Psychologist in Gender with the Trans Support Service at Mersey Care, who recently took on the Snowdon at Night Challenge.
Despite the driving rain, Kasia reached the summit in 3.5 hours, an hour before sunrise and raised £270 to support our mental health and community services.
“Hiking grounds me and fills me with joy and hope,” Kasia explained. “You need that when you work with clients who are struggling to see it.
“They may be feeling somewhere in the valleys and you are able to stand at the top of the mountain and say, ‘Listen, you just need to follow the journey and you will get here as well.’”
Our full interview with Kasia and more information about her inspiring Snowdon challenge can be found on the Mersey Cares website.

Mersey Cares: Supporting children and young people’s services
Mersey Cares marked International Youth Day (12 August) by celebrating the energy, creativity and resilience of young people – and reflected on how, as a charity, we have been able to support our children and young people’s services.
One of our most recent projects has been supporting Knowsley child and adolescent mental health service to create permanent displays of artwork produced in art therapy sessions. These vibrant displays not only brighten our spaces but also give each young artist the opportunity to see their creativity celebrated and their voice heard. More information is on the charity’s website.
Can you become a Friend of Mersey Cares?
As one of over 220 NHS charities across the UK, working alongside the NHS to deliver the very best health and care for everyone, we’ll be celebrating our amazing supporters on the International Day of Charity (5 September) and inviting you to become a Friend of Mersey Cares.
Regular support gives us the stability to plan ahead and commit to projects that can make such a difference to those accessing Mersey Care services, as well as support our dedicated staff. Working closely with our staff and services, we identify the areas where extra help is most needed — so every monthly gift goes towards projects that we know will make a real impact. Find out more and become a Mersey Cares Friend on the charity’s website.
