Helping your child understand their feelings
Our Mersey Care Mental Health Support Teams have created a range of age-appropriate workbooks to help primary school children explore their thoughts, feelings and emotions. They are designed for children, with support from parents, carers or trusted adults where needed.
These workbooks are intended for children with mild emotional wellbeing concerns and may not be suitable if your child is already receiving specialist mental health support or has been experiencing ongoing mental health difficulties.
If you're unsure what to do next, speak to your child's teacher, your school's Mental Health Support Team or your GP. If you are worried that your child has seriously hurt themselves or may be at immediate risk of harm, call NHS 111 and select the mental health option, or call 999 in an emergency.
I have really enjoyed these sessions; I have learned alot about anxiety and got a better understanding of what it actually is and how it works or shows itself. The sessions have been really helpful, especially using praise and rewards. Also, the realistic discipline which I now realise I set unrealistic expectations. This has really helped my child progress, and we have conquered a lot of anxieties and will continue to.
Some of the techniques for overcoming anxiety have really helped. The circle of control and questions helped - along with the rewards. Thank you for all your help.
Thank you all so much, it has made a huge difference to our lives.
We have found this really helpful. It has been thought provoking and has allowed us to take a step back from everything and view things differently. It has enabled us to pause in the moment and think about our approach. The workbook has been useful and there is plenty for us to use.
